TalespokeCampaign notes for Game Masters

Campaign notes that file themselves.

After the session, say what happened. Talespoke picks out the NPCs, plot threads and places you mention and files them, all on your iPhone.

One campaign free, with as many notes as you like. Talespoke Plus is £2.49 a month or £14.99 a year.

iPhone with iOS 27 or later. Filing and answers need Apple Intelligence.

After the session

Say it the way you’d tell a friend.

Tap New note, then the microphone, and talk: your words are written down on your iPhone as you speak. Then Apple’s on-device model reads the note and picks out the names in it, each in its colour.

You check it before anything is saved.

Keep or drop each name with a tick, rename it, or change its kind. A new name that sounds like one already on file asks “Did you mean…?” first, and is never linked unasked.

Then it’s filed.

The recap goes on the timeline in your own words, and what it said about each name is added to that name’s page.

Check what was found: tonight's recap with every name it found underlined where it was said, then 9 NPCs, 3 threads and 4 places, and the new names to keep. The new names tonight, each with a tick: Sister Maud and Nell, NPCs; Corin's plea to free the wyrm and Sister Maud leads the Quiet Tide, threads; the Lantern Gate, a place; and the ten names already in the campaign, linked. The campaign's timeline: The Ashen Coast, 17 NPCs, 12 open threads and 9 places, with tonight's recap at the top and its names underlined.

Every NPC, thread and place

Every name keeps a page.

Tap a name and you get everything you’ve ever said about it, oldest first. Thessaly turns up in four notes across four weeks, and her page has all four, each linked back to the night you said it.

At the table

Ask your notes.

Type “Where is Dorn?” and Talespoke writes an answer on your iPhone from your own notes, with the notes it used listed under it so you can check. When your notes don’t say, it tells you so.

Or just type a name.

Every NPC, thread and place it matches comes first, then every note that mentions it, the words you typed shaded. “Wait, who’s that?” is a few letters away.

Search, asked “Where is Dorn?”: Dorn in the index, then an answer from your notes, “Dorn is in the Harrowgate cells now.”, written from the 2 best-matching notes listed below it. Search for Thessaly: her NPC page and two threads, Answer from these notes, then the five notes that mention her, best match first.

Eight weeks later

Threads stay open until you close them.

The drowned bells were a rumour to plant in August. By October the players had forgotten them, and the notebook hadn’t. Every hook, secret and debt stays open, its notes in order, until you mark it resolved.

Small things that save a session.

Your notes stay on your iPhone.

No account, no server, no analytics. Dictation, filing and answers all run on the phone, so what you write about your players stays with you.

The party is never an NPC.

Add the player characters, and the players’ own names if you like. However often they come up in a recap, neither is filed as an NPC.

A misheard name asks first.

A new name spelt or sounding like one on file is asked about, so a slip doesn’t quietly start a second page.

Nothing you said is lost.

Close the app mid-sentence or run out of battery: the note waits on your iPhone until you save it.

Your notes, as Markdown.

Export a whole campaign as one Markdown file whenever you like, free, subscribed or not.

How it compares.

Beside four other apps a Game Master might use on an iPhone: Saga20, DnD Campaign Notes, RPG Notebook and Obsidian.

  • Filed from what you say, on the phone.Saga20 works from an uploaded recording or imported notes, off the phone, and DnD Campaign Notes sends a transcript off the phone for its AI recaps.
  • Nothing collected. No account and no analytics. Obsidian collects nothing either; RPG Notebook’s free version shows ads.
  • Where others do more.Talespoke is for iPhone alone. Obsidian also runs on Mac, Windows, Linux and Android, DnD Campaign Notes on iPad and Mac, and Saga20 shares a campaign with your players.

One campaign free, for as long as it runs.

Questions.

Does Talespoke record my sessions?

No. You dictate a note after the session, or while you prep the next one. It’s turned into text on your iPhone as you speak, and the audio isn’t kept.

Does it need Apple Intelligence?

Automatic filing and answers do: an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence, with it turned on. Without it, Talespoke is a quick notebook you file by hand, names already on file are still linked, and Search still finds every note.

Do my notes sync to my other devices?

No. They stay on the iPhone you wrote them on, which is why there’s no account. An iPhone backup moves them to a new phone, and you can export any campaign as Markdown.

What happens if I stop paying for Plus?

Nothing is deleted or hidden. Every campaign stays readable and exportable, and the one you wrote in last keeps taking notes.

Which games does it work with?

Any tabletop roleplaying game, including one of your own. It doesn’t need to know the rules.

When can I get it?

It’s coming soon to the App Store. Leave your email below and we’ll send one message on launch day.
